Dr. Christopher Godek touches on insurance, expectations, and recovery for patients interested in rhinoplasty surgery.
Toms River, NJ — “Rhinoplasty is a procedure that requires a lot of attention to very fine details, basically thinking in millimeters rather than inches. It really takes someone who is exceptionally particular in what they do,” writes New Jersey plastic surgeon Christopher P. Godek, MD in a recent blog post. According to the post – titled, Why I Enjoy Performing Rhinoplasty Procedures – Dr. Godek specifically enjoys the unique intricacies of facial anatomy as well as the technically challenging aspect of the surgery, both of which combine to make rhinoplasty surgery his favorite procedure to perform.
When prospective rhinoplasty patients visit his practice, the Personal Enhancement Center, Dr. Godek says three of the most common questions that often arise are:
To help answer these frequent inquiries, the New Jersey plastic surgeon authored a three-part blog series throughout which he addresses each question individually.
In part one – Will Insurance Cover the Cost of Rhinoplasty Surgery? – Dr. Godek states that insurance coverage is typically contingent on the whether or not the patient is undergoing rhinoplasty for cosmetic or reconstructive purposes. After providing specific examples for each classification, he notes that insurance companies will generally only cover reconstructive aspects of surgery (i.e. repair of a deviated septum or broken nose) due to potential health risks that may result if the nose is left untreated.
In part two – Are My Expectations Realistic for Rhinoplasty Surgery? – Dr. Godek provides an overview of Mirror Imaging, an innovative technology he uses to help patients visualize what can realistically be achieved through rhinoplasty surgery. He also touches on how the technology can facilitate presurgical collaboration between himself and the patient: “There’s only so much you can do with someone’s nose due to its unique subtleties, so computer imaging is very helpful to sort of fine-tune exactly the way they want their nose to look while staying within the realm of realistic possibilities.”
Lastly, in part three – What is Recovery From Rhinoplasty Like? – the New Jersey plastic surgeon describes his “limited-touch” approach to surgery and the impact it can have on the overall recovery process. Additionally, he outlines a basic recovery timeframe for the average patient, as well as lymphatic massage techniques and the concierge program his practice offers that can often help expedite and enhance recovery for his patients.
