Recovery from Revision Rhinoplasty: What to Expect

Recovery from Revision Rhinoplasty Toms River

Recovery from revision rhinoplasty is much like that of primary rhinoplasty. Following surgery, a nasal splint will be secured in place to help protect and stabilize the nose during the initial healing period. After about seven days, the splint can often be removed, and most patients are able to go back to school, office-based jobs, and/or other non-strenuous daily routines. It is important, however, to refrain from engaging in physical activity and/or vigorous exercise for at least a few more weeks in order to avoid injury to the facial region and provide ample time for the nose to heal completely.

While there will likely be some degree of bruising right after the procedure, any skin discoloration will typically resolve within a few weeks and can usually be concealed with makeup once the splint is removed. Many patients also report experiencing mild to moderate discomfort in the first week or so, though this symptom can generally be well managed with medication and should gradually dissipate with time.

Although my “limited-touch” approach to nasal surgery helps to minimize postoperative side effects, there will still be a certain amount of swelling in and around the nose following surgery. The majority of individuals can expect approximately 80% of swelling to be resolved by six weeks, but it can often take an entire year for the residual 20% to disappear. To help facilitate this process, patients at my practice can take advantage of our concierge program that includes lymphatic massages and med spa treatments.

Ultimately, everyone heals differently, so recovery from revision rhinoplasty will be unique to each individual. For a more personalized idea of what to expect based on your specific needs and desired outcome, I encourage you to schedule a consultation at my practice today.
